Plain English. What we collect, why, and what we will never do with it.

The short version: we only use your information to run Java Nation and — if you ask us to — to send you our own news and offers. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. You can unsubscribe or ask us to delete your details at any time.
Java Nation is a coffee shop and restaurant group with four locations in Maryland: Kensington, North Bethesda, Silver Spring and Kentlands. In this policy, “we” and “Java Nation” mean Java Nation and its cafés.
Questions about this policy or your information? Email info@javanation.com.
When you connect to our free guest WiFi, we ask for your name, email address and phone number. Our system also records your device’s network address (MAC address), the times you connect, and which café you connected from. We ask for these details so we can offer the network, recognise you on your next visit so you don’t have to fill the form in again, and understand how busy our cafés are.
If you contact us, request catering, or ask about wholesale coffee, we receive whatever you put in that form — typically your name, email, phone and your message. We also use website analytics to understand which pages people visit. Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to identify you personally.
Card payments are handled by our payment provider — we never see or store your full card number. Our cafés have security cameras for safety and loss prevention.
We will only send you marketing email if you ticked the box asking for it — for example when signing in to our guest WiFi. Connecting to the WiFi on its own does not sign you up for marketing; that choice is separate and optional.
Those emails come from Java Nation only and are about Java Nation — new menu items, events, offers and news from our cafés. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and we act on unsubscribes promptly. You can also reply to any email, or write to info@javanation.com, and we will take you off the list.
We use a small number of trusted providers to operate — for example an email marketing platform to send our newsletter, website hosting and analytics, and our payment processor. They handle information only on our instructions, only to provide that service to us, and they are not permitted to use it for their own purposes or sell it.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of our guests and staff.
We keep guest WiFi and marketing details for as long as they are useful for the purpose we collected them, or until you ask us to delete them. If you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record of your email address so that we can honour your choice and avoid emailing you again.
You can ask us to:
Email info@javanation.com and we’ll take care of it. There is no charge, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
Our website and guest WiFi are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.
Guest information collected over our WiFi is stored on equipment we control in our own cafés, and access is limited to people who need it to do their job. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Please remember that a public WiFi network — including ours — is a shared network. Avoid sending sensitive information over any public WiFi.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we’ll make that clear.
